Paul - some gold bugs made a killing then - but I wonder how many held on all the way to $800 - I was in the gold mining business then - it was pretty hairy - at that price you can mine almost anything - the sweepings in the stopes too. Nothing the Fed or IMF did could put out the fire - I remember the auctions where 600,000 oz were sold at a time - they were way over-subscribed - it was like pouring gas on the flames. I think the 'authorities' learned that the best way to dampen gold was by subterfuge of one sort or another. E
