Sam - Re: "Have you heard anything new on the Carmel chipset for servers?"

Yes I have.

Carmel is a high end server/workstation chip set that will replace the 450NX chip set. Whereas the 450 NX run at only 66 MHz, the Carmel will run at 133 MHz when in a 2-WAY SMP mode, or 100 MHz in a 4-way SMP mode.

Carmel will also support TWO (DUAL) RAMBUS Channels, allowing the Direct RDRAM to be addressed in an interleaving fashion - one bank alternating with the other - which will help reduce latency times. Burst memory access will occur at 3.2 Gigabytes/sec.

Tape out of the CARMEL should occur well before the end of this year, I believe.

Carmel seems targeted at the new CASCADES server/workstation CPU due in the latter part of 1999.
