I have raised that very question. Post-grubbing is a pasttime I don't comprehend the attractions of at all.

But I have two theories to offer. One, it offers an opportunity for a group identification that is entirely without risk. Nothing is on the line, no skills are required beyond counting and paying a little attention, yet you participate in a certain amount of goodnatured camaraderie engaging in this sport. Two is that it's a Veblenesque, The Economic Theory of the Leisure Class, sort of activity-- conspicuous consumption (of time and energy.)

Now that certainly couldn't be said of any of the other threads on SI. No way.
