<<your ridge pole is the supporting member not the post>>Not true the ridge pole isn't supporting anything if there are no ceiling joists or rafter collars. Without these walls kick out and roof turns into a pancake ridge pole or no. What I am talking about is a beam under the ridge pole supporting it in the absence of the collar ties or CJ this beam is it self the only thing supporting the roof. The beam it self is supported by posts buried in the gable walls.Perhaps this is not your classic post and beam theory but a excellent way to create an open beam from a standard platform framed building with minimal cost. Is still post and beam ,no?....Much more interesting than BC.
