I'm really not the person youwant to ask that...maybe someone who knows more will chime in. If not, check out the BBS at <http://www.tomshardware.com/> or

I've seen that question asked many times on those boards, if you are refering to the Celeron 333mhz. The general drift of the answers is that it is overclockable but not nearly at the rate of success as the 300a. It appears not to be the chip of choice. You can find out why and what your chances are from the people on those boards who are oc'g alot more seriously than I am.

Has anyone had success overclocking the Celeron 333a? I'm am looking to upgrade, and am thinking
about buying the Celeron 300a Abit 6BH combo, and noticed that for $15 to $20 more I could get the
333MHz. Would that be better, or should I stick with the 300MHz for overclocking? Thanks.

yeah stick with the celeron 300a, you aren't going to reach 500 mhz with a 333, and the next step
would probably be 415, the 300a can reach 450 most of the time

Well, I'll say that I have taken three 333's to 500+. It's not easy but can be done.

That a celeron 333a Vlad or the pentium 2? I heard the percentage of successfull 333a to 500 was only
like 10-15%, I'd say don't gamble and try the 300a to 450 which is 80%

Those are Celerons 333. I just got in a batch of P2's (300, 333 and 350) I'll be running next week.

The reason the 333A is harder to over clock is the:

333A CPU runs at 5 times the CPU bus frequency.
Where as the 300A CPU runs at 4.5 times the CPU bus frequency.
Max speed for the majority of 3xxA CPUs appears to be slightly less than 500MHz.

Hence if you use a CPU bus frequency of 100MHz the CPU clock frequency will be 450MHz for a 300A and 500MHz for a 333A. Because your chances of getting a 333A CPU to run at 500MHz is much less than getting a 300A to run at 450Mhz a 300A is a much better choice for over clockers.

As an alternative you could use a 83.3MHz CPU bus frequency with a 333A CPU. This would produce a CPU clock frequency of 416MHz for the 333A. However, you would not get the performance gain you get from running a 300A at a CPU bus frequency of 100Mhz. There is a added drawback in using a 83.3 CPU bus frequency as some motherboards run the PCI bus at 41.65MHz when the CPU bus frequency is 83.3MHz. You can run into problems with devices connected to the PCI bus as the design frequency for the PCI bus is 33MHz. Where as when you use a 100MHz CPU bus frequency with a 300A CPU, the PCI bus will run at 33MHz.

Summary: At the present time the 300A is a much better choice for over clockers.
