Apratim, I think we are much closer in our philosophies than you suspect. I, too, believe that a Keynesian economic model is appropriate when the purpose of the government intervention is to help the broadest number of citizens possible. But I think that what went on in the Asian economies is a far cry from that. Some months before you joined this thread it was pointed out that it was the lack of adequate banking laws and regulations that allowed this kind of cronyism to flourish. In other words, the tiger economy governments were favoring certain businesses with no social purpose in mind. They were simply helping to line the pockets of the favored few.

I think you are incorrect in believing that there was any meaningful parallel between steps taken by this country and the policies of the Asian tiger economies. It seems to me that the only comparison is that they both took action. The contrast is in the purpose of the action.
