A great deal for Netscape, PT. Not completely sure it makes sense for AOL.

This may be the only way that Netscape will ever realize value from the browser. Splitting the company up this way is brilliant.

They get whatever they get from Sun, which is basically what the company is worth, since the browser has little value as an income-generating property.

Then the get a bonus from AOL for the "worthless" browser!

(The browser isn't completely worthless - it's worth what it would cost to write a browser, plus a premium for zero development time. But $4B?)
