Jim,

I am glad the Banshee is working out well for you. I would like to make it clear that I don't think Banshee sucks. Most of my ranting is based on three points: 1) I don't like the marketing approach and expectation management of TDFX (personal opinion) 2) I don't like the fact that a competitor is leading us in the innovation department (fact) and 3) I am not at all happy with Banshee being released with so many compatiblity issues (also fact)- both with games themselves and with other TDFX products.

I have been checking out a bunch of message boards and here is how it goes with Banshee: Everything works pretty well from the start or after a single patch...or it is one problem after another. Seems like you are in the former group while I am in the latter...

I have had many hardware issues over the years, and spent a good chunk of the old DOS days doing all kinds of fun stuff trying to get those old games to run. I know what frustration is. But this is really getting to me. Every game I have tried to run this weekend has failed, with the exception of Quake2 and the bundle that came with the card. Now, these games don't just spit me back to the desktop- they crash the system and turn off the monitor. I have gone from game to game- crash...turn on the monitor, reboot, skip the scandisk, back to square one. Over and over...

The worst part is the letdown...I was excited to have the new toy for the weekend, and particularly Rush the Rock (which is too slow to be playable). Instead, I found myself constantly frustrated, picked the one time of the week I can't get tech support, and I am unable to play ANY of my games except Quake2. Remember, I could play any of them on my Voodoo card just 2 days ago...

So I don't think Banshee sucks...I think the drivers suck. And since compatibility is one of our big selling points, I think the fact that I can't play Glide games out of the box is ridiculous.
