You've got that right. Go back and re-read Dowd's post. He say so right there in the post.

I think money has plenty enough power the way it is.

The first thing you need to get out of your head is the idea that there is a dichotomy between the power of government and the power of money. Government is just the power of money operating by other means.

I admire you going off and reading Hayek, but I don't have the grounding to do that critically.

I'm sure you do. You are bright, articulate and can reason. That's all it takes (and a lot of time).

Even if you can't read him "critically," just understanding what he says will go a long way to clear up a lot of the fog in a lot of the debates that go on in our society.
