From Greenberg'a column this morning -

The current buzz is that the PC inventory correction from earlier this year, after PC makers stuffed the channel, was worse than generally believed. As a result, chip purchases were so strong that Intel (INTC:Nasdaq) had no choice but to issue its surprise "positive" preannouncement. However, is today's strength borrowing from the first quarter? Unless it's a very merry Christmas, quite possibly.

Steve,
I think Enderle's assertions that Sun is now a 'vastly more powerful entity' and that IBM will take a hit because of the Netscape deal are laughable. AOL is probably looking for a way to preserve it's share as they are scared of the coming 'fat pipes', since these pipes require massive capital investment and will be owned by companies that have no particular need to offer AOL thru them...

John

Especially since IBM is up almost 3 today!!!
