Thank you for the URLs.

It was not my intention to reinterpret the Fed's charter, I was only trying to show with an example how different Central Banks have different priorities driven by socio-political realities at home, priorities which go way beyond simply providing liquidity to legitimate businesses. For example, maintainence of orderly markets in the case of the NY Fed. For an export-oriented economy, maintainence of orderly currency exchange rates is similarly crucial as businesses hate nothing more than uncertainty.

I agree with you that the HK market intervention was very well timed. Rubin's call of the dollar-yen top was not that bad either. :-)
