That could have been said prior to both past sell offs.
I don't think it matters. There will always be another excuse to sell off.

Stole this from another thread. I know some think it doesn't matter, but it scares me;

Barron's shows the Dow with a P/E of 24.7 Friday (it was 23.6 on July 17). It shows the S&P500 P/E as 29.58 (it was 30.01 on July 17)

Earnings are lower. Barron's shows Dow earnings currently as $370.58 (Earnings were $395.63 on July 17) It shows S&P earnings currently as $39.33 (Earnings were $39.54 on July 17)

Dow earnings continue to decline, they were $370.87 the week before. S&P earnings are improving, up from $38.97 the previous period.
