Hmmm, I think you are right. Just this weekend I logged into compuserve with minicom and I logged in without switching to 7 bit mode and back, so yes it does work. So chat should also work. However, I am pretty sure that 2 years ago when I wrote my dip scripts that it didn't work then. I would love to tell you a thing or two about Compuserve, but seeing as how they own the chair that I'm sitting on right now, I'll keep my fingers shut :) I have a free account, but am looking to go pay for an internet provider somewhere else. I'm looking at a local one that has 56K, homepage, and email for $7.95/mo.
