Actually, Japan was using inflated stock/realestate to finance buying America... Got their loans called and had to sell performing assets to raise cash. They sold the only assets that would bring a good price close to what they paid, in my opinion....

Sort of reminds me of AOL buying Netscape.... <grin>
A wise investor will really think about this and see if there are any parallels if and when the internut frenzy subsides. I wrote some more on this frenzy at suite101.com and plan to add to it when time permits.

regards

Jim, >>>when Japan was buying America, did Japan try to cure our economic woes ?<<<

No, but what's your point? Mine was just that a world leader's economic health can turn on a dime (well, not quite). I wasn't referring at all to who could, or should have bailed whom. That's all. Still, this country does see a need to step in, around the world, whether it's an economic or threat of war type crisis. All the other countries in the world worry about numero uno, pretty exclusively.

Jim:<<Tony,

Jim, no they didn't but perhaps they should have. They seem to be very short sighted as this crisis they are in demonstrates. Quite frankly I think we are bailing them out to protect our economy and not theirs. This is what they should have thought of back then but their greed got in the way. Jeff
