We should pay attention indeed. I watched a portion of a program that dealt with JFK's assassination over the weekend and one point that Walter Cronkite made was how impressed the world was at the continuity of our government after the trauma of the president being assassinated. Apparently we are nearly unique in the world in this regard and this aspect of our government engenders respect. It's amazing that we should now think that the impeachment process would somehow be more injurious to the fabric of our country than an assassination.
