Another good point. Intel is certainly now emphasizing cost reductions whereas in the past they haven't discussed this very much.

One big thrust is the new CELERON 370 Pin package that will replace the SLot 1 PC board.

This eliminates a PC card and wave solder/assembly operation and the bypass capacitors and resistors on that card as well as one functional test. The BGA package formerly used is replaced with a plastic PGA package - perhaps a "wash" in cost.

Overall, Intel probably saves 3 or 4 dollars/Celeron which at 8 million/quarter should add $24 to $32 million to the bottom line all by itself !

That's equivalent to 24x to 32x AMD's last quarterly profit !
