Well finally, we are seeing some opposing opinions on this thread, courtesy Dale. I guess as long as the exchanges remain civil and focussed on objective analyses towards maximizing one's net worth (short or long) there can't be too much harm. Unfortunately with Twister discussions sometimes got quite ugly/personal.

In any case it is good to see Sun finally getting recognition in the marketplace that it has deserved for a long time.

Regards

Alok

Re: Shorting Sun & Fundamentals:

"If you are a short term trader, IMHO, if you want to short SUNW based on its fundamentals then I am afraid you are too naive to be left alone in the investment world alone and I strongly suggest you to invest in a solid mutual fund rather than individual stocks. "

I love Sun. Been long a long time. But, like many stocks contributing to the market's rapid rise over the past two months, Sun very well may have gotten ahead of itself. If the company can't grow as fast as its implied rate, then yes, Sun has run ahead of its fundamentals. Then again, neither Lucent nor Cisco is growing at 75% clips and their PE's sport such multiples. Like Sun and like the net stocks, they are trading more on bullish momentum and/or "story" basis than the numbers.
Should one short Sun? I've wanted to short amzn and ebay and the other net miracles, bitter about perhaps missing out on the greatest wealth building opportunity of my life time, however, prudently I hesitated before jumping in front of that train. Momentum is one tough mother. Puts, on the other hand, on stocks where a 3 point rather than 30 point day is huge, might be a good option here- as a hedge or naked.
C'est ca.

Well, I'm a long term investor who thought Sun was way overvalued
at 58. Sold all the shares I picked up at 41, so that I could buy
again when "people came to their senses". Boy was I wrong!

Re:Eventhough your above statements are absolutely childish, allow me to be a bit philosophical here!!

Oh cut it out Addi, my statement was followed with <g>! Maybe somebody on this thread can tell you what that means.

Re:Will Sun come up in the morning?! The answer is yes, but keep in mind Sun comes up at the end of night, And when it does come out it will be followed by night again, and the cycle continues. After every sunrise there is a sunset followed by another sunrise. The cycle is what we call life and what is taking the universe forward for better and brighter future!
What you are basically telling everyone in your post is that after every sunrise you will scream that "Watch out, night will soon arrive and when it comes I will tell you all "I told you so!"!.

Well that is a very nice story about the sun rising, but it really is not an analogy! If you want an analogy how about this. You and I are planning to go fishing. But as we board the boat, I say, hey wait a minute it looks like it's gonna rain. I see clouds. In fact, I think I see lightning. To which you guys reply: Oh Dale quite worrying. It aint gonna rain. That aint lightning. Besides even if it is, it will probably never hit us. To which I reply, I am going back in to have a beer. If it quits raining you guys come back and get me. See what I mean.

Now going back to SUNW, will SUNW fall below its current levels?! But of course. I would say we may very well see mid $50's (even high $30's) before we see $200/shr!

Oh you are really going out on a limb with that prediction. Ok mister wishywashy. So you are predicting somewhere between 30 and 200/shr. Are you sure you are comfortable with that. I am going to hold you to that prediction you know.

I on the other hand am not a short term trader but a boring long term investor who continues to hold on to solid shares of strong companies such as Sun Microsystems regardless of how they may perform in the immediate short term.

Well that is exactly what you should do. I am the same way with MSFT.

Regards.

Dale
