Cadet, the only catch to your theory is the y2k lunacy. There are now so many people who believe that the financial system will fail at y2k that there will be a rush to the exits in mid to late 1999. I agree with you that there is nothing negative in view before Spring. The analysts will drop estimates so low that almost all companies will "surprise" in January, even with lower earnings.

The bullish case is strong if you ignore fundamentals.
