I think that means when your short order hit the Datek server, the stock became down tick. And you cannot short a stock when it is down tick. I have had this kind of thing happened to me before.

Aha, "Closed out". I received "timed out: Sell ... ..." in former times. Maybe they changed the title.

It is disturbing enough. It is a flaw... Usually the order should "wait" until the next uptick. And if the price is down recently, it was just left open until the price is up enough to execute the order.

On the Nyse, Amex and Nasd Small Cap this works. No problems entering an order to short. It just sits and waits. But only to use with a limit otherwise the price could be far off until it is taken out.
