I haven't seen the commercial either. But I know I would have put helmets on them. I think anyone would have. So I think it's unlikely they're really gerbils. Get real! Real gerbils without gear! Their crash-wear and protection would be clearly visible. If PETA foams over, I would just go ahead and put helmets on them. It's a whole built-in follow-up campaign; provided free, thanks to activists and dialogue. These advertisers can tout their own efforts. Next commercial: "These didn't work, as you can see. But we're working on better helmets."
