From a 5 year old's perspective...

My favorite uncle, who is 11 years older than I am, became a grandfather on Saturday. Our five year old son, Stephen, who is named after my uncle, loves playing with his great uncle Steve because he is big and boisterous and loves to wrestle and play tough. Stephen thinks all grandfathers are "old", meaning they have gray thinning hair, complain about their aches and pains all the time and, while fun to play with, are basically old fuddy duddies. So I tell Stephen that Uncle Steve is now a grandfather. Stephen gets that sad pouty look on his face, begins to sniffle and says, "Does that mean he's old now?"
