You are so intense!! I am doubtful that this thread can change the DELL "mo", nonetheless, I appreciate your efforts to "stop the bleeding" in anyway you can. Obviously ORCL's pushing to be classed as a net stock...maybe Larry will succeed.DELL could push in that direction, too. You are right!! Never give up.

<<< the company needs all the feedback it can obtain, and I assume that this particular thread is one of the very best feedback mechanisms for a business of any kind, which has ever existed. I
remember that when we "brainstormed", that there were no "rules". That it was o.k. to say it the way you were thinking it, even if it was half baked, and even if it did not come out looking like
something that Chuzzlewit wrote! From my brief experience here, I can "feel" some holding back.>>>>>
Its my understanding that certain people at Dell do read this thread and even belong to SI. I do not expect any of them to post here
for example,"Man, we are working three shifts at Dell and are expecting to make 5 cents over the whisper" .So some constraints are in order if he/she likes to keep working there!
Michael Dell was successful long before anyone thought of this thread. My big hope is that he does not personally read this thread
or implement ideas expressed here. My attitude comes from "ideas" expressed here by "Steve"(hpeace) about how to run the company and by "ideas" that he should enter the sub $1k market with re-sellers.
Our hope should be that he remain focused on the well defined
tasks of:
1. Obtaining and training of high caliber employees or locating factories in places where the most efficient production can be established.
2. Selecting the next major area of effort for the company which is not yet a critical factor because of the huge demand for present products. ( But you can sense that it is Web-related)G
3. Delegation of authority in the company and providing leadership and direction.
<<< This causes me anxiety, because I believe we have a valuation crisis. Several persons have addressed this, some more directly than others.>>>>
If you are addressing the stock price today, then do not worry.
I have owned Dell since 1993, and Dell is behaving in a very
typical way. As Kemble would say, "they just don't get it".
But "they" will get it when sales and earnings are reported and compared with others inside or outside the industry !!!!

<<< It would be a great shame if this thread, through
more aggressive brainstorming, could have helped the company Dell, but we were afraid to put it right out there. We held back. Don't say it unless it's just right, that sort of thing.>>>>>

IMO this thread in its present form is doing a marvelously
useful thing for Dell, I have said once what that is, will not
repeat it here because it has to occur naturally without intent.
And there is much well worth 'holding back' from this world-wide
discussion of Dell. Bears making personal attacks on Michael Dell
or on substantial thread members will be surrounded by bulls, gored,
trampled and decimated.
But any provable facts either negative or positive about the company are welcome.
So to help Michael get the needed employees, we can continue
to discuss the advantages of Dell employment and Austin.
1. Sharing in a stock option plan
2. A management that shares success with its workers by distributing 200 shares to all
3. A company that has never had general lay-off in as many years as I can remember
4. A beautiful modern progressive and technology oriented city
(Speaking as a newer Texas resident, they have many advantages over Cowtown or downtown Houston)hehehe
5. Texas laws that welcome new people. (Example: My total fees,
permits and all for building this home near Ft Worth was $115 and the 5 acre site cost $15,000. In Dana Point where I previously lived fees would have cost about $30,000 and a small lot about $140,000 or more.

Dell Details Agreement That Fuels Mobil Corporation Desktop IT Savings of 25 Percent; Three-Year Global Contract Establishes Dell as Standard

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 24, 1998--Dell Computer
Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL) announced today that Mobil Corporation, the
fourth-largest publicly held oil company in the world, has agreed to a
new three-year deal worth an estimated $75 million establishing Dell
as Mobil's standard for desktops, notebooks and servers worldwide.

Mobil estimates the relationship with Dell should enable the
company to reduce its corporate desktop Information Technology (IT)
costs by 25 percent over the course of the contract.

Like many global organizations, Mobil's computing goals include
achieving Year 2000 compliance and reducing the company's total cost
of ownership (TCO). Establishing Dell as a desktop IT standard will
help Mobil accomplish both goals.

"Mobil is pleased to announce our partnership with Dell, which is
part of our long-term plan to optimize our desktop TCO efforts," said
G. (Jerry) L. Kohlenberger, CIO of Mobil Corporation.

Mobil initiated its TCO strategy through standardization, going
from three computer system suppliers to one worldwide. Industry
analysts at Gartner Group have long documented how standardization
helps lower IT support and maintenance costs.

"Dell's customized strategy will enable Mobil to quickly achieve
its goal of single sourcing for desktops, notebooks and NT servers,"
said Brian Wood, vice president and general manager of Dell Computer
Corporation's Enterprise segment. "At the same time, leveraging the
capabilities of Dell's direct business model will help save Mobil an
estimated 25 percent on this segment of its IT needs."

Have been screaming for over a year.....YOU CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH DELL....and, I believe this says it all.... :o)

BUY MORE DELL

Best, Kemble
