Well.......not to fan the fires - but hundreds of thousands dead because of the sanctions? Where did that number come from?

And as for Israel, well that's not the clearest cut of issues. But large scale invasion of a bordering peaceful country who just happen to be resource wealthy and water accessible - now that's pretty clear cut.

The enforcement of the sanctions has played out as a farce, but more because of the size of the gap between the intended and actual outcome. The only reason for the sanctions in the first place, as agreed by the UN, was to limit Saddam's ability to agress. The UN may not always be spot on in its reasoning, but I believe in this case that the original concensus was legitimate.

Saddam has not modified his behavior or even toned down his rhetoric, so I guess responsibility for any impact on the Iraqi citizenry
lies more squarely on his shoulders, yes?
