Dear Judd: I believe you are correct that its possible to use netscape now. However, although I havent tried it its probably a pain in the arse compared to just using the aol default browser. I have a version of Internet explorer which I pull up now and again when the aol browser doesnt do the job properly and its just another step one must go through. I much prefer having the better browser built in. Maybe I am just lazy?? JDN

Judd, the issue isn't whether or not you can use one browser or another. Anyone using the Internet can use any browser they like. The problem is that most Internet users are not techies and will not take the time to try and switch browsers. That's why both Microsoft and Netscape fought so hard to have their browser the "choice" browser at AOL. AOL also desperately wanted that AOL icon on the Windows desktop. It isn't that users can't use AOL without it; it's that users are much more likely to choose AOL if they can get there by simply clicking on an icon.

Mike
