I came across this article while perusing some news archives. This could be why 3Com isn't touting L5 use with Palm Pilot. They're doing their own thing with encryption...

From a suite in the Fairmont Hotel, RSA's conference headquarters, Certicom Tuesday announced that 3Com will use Certicom's elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) in future versions of its popular PalmPilot.
