LISBON, Nov 24 (AFP) - Three thousand pieces of gold from Portugal and Brazil, some dating back to the Sixth Century are to go on sale in December, the organisers of the sale announced Tuesday.

The collection includes a coin from the Visigoth period (585 AD) which has a reserve price of 14,000 dollars. Other coins for sale is one dating from 1818, the reign of Joao VI, which has a reserve price of 86, 000 dollars.

Javier Salgado, an official with the company selling the coins, said the collection represented "a testimony to the evolution of Portuguese currency since the beginning of the nation up to the 19th Century."

Most of the coins are from private collections and include examples that are very rare.

Do you really think gold needs the teotwawki panic mantra to do well, Rose?
I don't - there are imho good and logical reasons for gold to demonstrate in the near future its superiority over paper, among which the Euro/US$ shift is primary.

Anyway, if your neighbours are all going to revert to savages on 01/01/00 then you don't need gold - you need lead and a propulsion system for it.

Me, I'm happy with this sack of beans and this garden and my FBNA shares #Subject-20060
