A few paragraphs from TheStreet.com's coverage last night:

<<Software company Novell (NOVL:Nasdaq) reported $298 million in revenue, or 12 cents a diluted share, in the fourth quarter ending Oct. 31, beating First Call's nine-analyst consensus estimate by 3 cents.
[Yadda, Yadda on the financials from the release, already posted]
Novell Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt attributed the Provo, Utah, company's healthy performance to demand for NetWare 5 with its embedded directory. It received much hype when it was launched earlier this year as a product that could help turn the company back into a serious competitor to Microsoft (MSFT:Nasdaq), which had announced that Windows 2000 would be delayed. In the fourth quarter, Novell said revenue from directory-enabled servers jumped 16% from a year ago to $150 million.

Tim Witt, analyst at Olde Discount, said he was surprised with Novell's strong performance and that the company was showing definite signs of a turnaround. Olde Discount has no underwriting relationship with Novell.

Novell shares were up in fairly active after-hours trading, according to Brent Houston at Mr. Stock.com.
