Looks like the US group is not willing to tow the 'corporate' line. The US GSM providers see the advantages of CDMA. No doubt they would like the world to have GSM dictated as the system of choice, but they see the writing on the wall and dont want to get caught even shorter than they are now. They know things will not happen overnight and they have time to realign their systems. It will take money and time. If the world has a standard dictated and if that standard is on technical merit, they are way behind the power curve. New start ups and current CDMA providers will eat their lunch. They know this, that is why they would like to see multiple standards - to give them time to ring as much money out of their current infrastructure system as they can. IMO, 3G system capacity requirements will not force GSM out of the market for years to come unless it is mandated for the politicians.
