Novell has made cuts in the number of resellers that are in their sales channel in EMEA...NOVELL: Novell implements sweeping reform to improve distribution across Europe, Middle East And Africa Presswire - November 23, 1998 14:47 M2 PRESSWIRE-23 November 1998-NOVELL: Novell implements sweeping reform to improve distribution across Europe, Middle East And Africa (C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD * Novell Implements Sweeping Reform To Improve Distribution Across Europe, Middle East And Africa Novell EMEA Optimises Channel To Focus On Better Reseller Support Novell, UK -- Novell has today announced that it will significantly improve its service to partners and resellers through a programme that consolidates its distributor relationships across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This strategy is the biggest realignment of Novell EMEA's distribution channel in recent history and puts Novell in control of the demand creation of all its products. The total number of Novell distributors across the region will be reduced in total from 102 to 60. The pan-European initiative, which has been decided and implemented on a country by country basis, will boost Novell's best distributors into a position where they can deliver Novell's extensive European reseller base with high quality service levels and consistent product availability across the entire region. Murray Treece, channel sales director, Novell UK and Ireland, said, "The distributors that will now partner Novell have been evaluated on past performance, not on future promises. Good relationships with our distributors will create a more sophisticated channel from which both they, Novell resellers and ultimately customers will benefit. Those distributors with which we will no longer be doing business have already received notice that contracts are to be terminated." Treece continued, "Novell's business in EMEA is up 37 per cent year-on-year for the first nine months of fiscal 1998. We expect these positive developments to continue given Novell's leadership in directory services and the strength of new product cycles that are being developed. These arrangements will allow Novell to provide the quality of support the market expects". Pertti Ervi, co-president, Computer 2000, said, "We welcome Novell's decision to rationalise their distribution channels in Europe. In many countries Novell products have been over distributed leading to decreasing focus to support new and existing projects. With the change Computer 2000 and other distributors are better placed to work more closely with Novell to boost local support for resellers." Andrew Porter, IT Services Director of Computerland UK plc, said, "For us this latest move simplifies the procurement process for Novell product and creates efficiencies in economy of scale to enable distributors to better support resellers. As one of Novell's principal resellers in the UK we are seeing a growing interest among our customers for Novell solutions and this enhanced relationship with our main distributor partners, combined with the new PartnerNet program, will enable us to deliver better value service to our customers." Treece added, "With better support from distributors, more of Novell's resellers will be able to benefit from delivering Novell's 21st Century Solutions to both large and SME businesses in areas such as electronic commerce, data warehousing and Year 2000 software compliancy." Novell's official distribution partners in the UK are Computer 2000, CHS Electronics and Azlan. Novell's official distribution partner in Ireland is Sharptext.
