Sorry for getting back to you and Doc so late. I really did take off right after posting to the hairdresser. What I know about these sartorical stocks fundamentally is this:

DBRN - I read the Cramer piece yesterday and watched to see what effect it would have. "None" was the immediate answer so it looks like today many figured that if that piece couldn't help - they were getting out. DBRN does sure have quite a bit of spare cash in its coffers.
(oh, buy the way drsvelte - your MIKE beat by 3 cents after the close. Went into one of their stores after you mentioned it a few months back - couldn't really find anything I knew what to do with - sort of an arts and craft thing.)

RL - a much better designer than businessman I'm afraid. Personally, I find these cloths worth wearing. But RL's got one of those "growth setbacks" going on. Retail growth expected now @12%, down from the 20% planned this year. Heavy markdowns due in part to delayed store openings.

NAUT - this is more of a "guy stock" as their womens line (mostly Chaus) is not doing so well. How is their NST (Nautica Sport Technology) line doing? It's plan is to appeal to the younger buyer. They are also getting into the denim wear market more.

LIZ - They had some slowdown and only came close on their last eps because of less shares due to a buyback. Management guides to mid single digit sales and earnings growth for '99. LIZ is looking for an acquisition to boost sales growth. Especially interested in international and men's lines. They have also launched discount wear such as "Crazy Horse" at JCPenny, "Villager" at Kohl's, and "Russ" at Walmart. I'd wait and see about that acquisition.

TOM - Only bad thing you can say about them is their comps were down. This company has beat estimates for 22 consecutive quarters. Women's wear accounted for most of the 40% increase in order backlog for shipment in Oct '98 - Feb '99.

I have not shopped apparel over the net as the texture and feel and fit of clothes is just not suited to it. I have asked for catalogs via e-mail though.

As far as the time to get into any of these stocks - Thean, what's your take?
