re Insider Trading Post

Dorine,

My apologies if this article was posted previously.

I have been on vacation and there are over 10,000 unread posts, so I am not sure what has and has not been posted. I am trying to catch up on what I would have posted, had I been here. However, I suspect that you err in stating that it has been posted, because I think that I am the only one who takes the effort to retype the articles from the Austin paper. I may be mistaken, so if you could provide the relevant posts, I'd appreciate it.

As far as your comment, "Why would you repost this now? We need posative posts", I've explained why I am posting now. Notice that I did not consider the post either positive or negative, and the only editorial comment I provided was a "DELLish, 3" signature.

More to the point, I view the function of this thread as
1) providing the greatest possible amount of data about the stock (DELL) which may bear upon its near- and long-term future market performance;
2) to do so as factually and logically as possible;
3) to present logically our opinions about events and probable impact on the stock price;
4)and to discuss logically and civilly our differing opinions.
I am certain that it is not in the best interests of this or any thread to present only 'positive' or 'negative' data. At the point where we begin to hedge or slant our input one way or the other, we become indistinguishable from the scam artists we so thoroughly detest.

As you are probably aware, I have been contributing less to the thread than I used to for various reasons: chief among them has been an increasing tendency towards incivility coupled with an intolerance of differing opinions. If the thread considers my attempt to provide factual data without spin to be inappropriate, then I can certainly abide by that sentiment.

Respectfully,
DELLish, 3.

Dorine, I think this is important news. It is not just taking profits, it is realizing gains made directly from the pockets of shareholders. When one of these people exercises an option and sells the share, a new share has been created, and the company (that's you and me) takes a hidden expense of the difference between the exercise price and the then prevailing market price (whether or not the security has been sold). And non of that cost is reported as an expense on any income statement.

This is a far cry from selling securities that you purchased.

TTFN,
CTC

Dorine, here is one example of the "cost" that is not reported:

Claudine Malone, director, exercised an option for 278,400 shares of common between $0.58 and $18.52 each from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11 and sold 220,800 shares between $55.06 and $60.00 each from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11 and now directly holds 177,600 common.

Assuming that the average exercise price was $9.55, and the prevailing price on the day of exercise was $57.78, then the hidden cost to the company (that's you and me and all of the other shareholders) is ($57.78 - 9.55)*278,400 = $13,705,632.

Now try repeating this for all of the insiders over the year, and you will see why I am upset at this. By the way, $13.7 MM is pretty exorbitant as a director's fee, don't you think?

TTFN,
CTC

Dorrine there is currently positive news on Dell but I don't know how to make a live link to the article. It is on the yahoo market report and says Dell is currently the #1 seller to businesses with over 500 employees. My apologies if this has already been posted.
