Uncle Frank,

I am a strong believer in indexing as well and hold all of my retirement portfolio in the S&P500, with additional borrowing to increase leverage. That way I have more time to gamble in Voltaire's casino and blow money on options. :-)

But I am unhappy with the way the indexes are constructed. For example, I find it ludicrous that the Dow30 index is interpreted in the media as representing the diverse spectrum of the US stock market (which is distinct from the US economy). And the fact that NDX is so much dominated by 4 stocks blows big holes in the theory that indexing may be used to manage portfolio volatility.

But something is better than nothing, so I index.
