what does the the new encore5x offer that the old encore dosnt
have?

It's faster (6.7MB/sec, 140ms seek DVD, 4.8MB/sec, 90ms seek CDROM)
It's got less bundled software (Mine came with just Wing Commander IV)

I think the Dxr2 board is the same; I'm not sure. I suppose the drivers and DVD Player software are updated.

I've got to say that it was a pleasure to install; I didn't have any difficulties, even though I'm still using my old CD-ROM as a secondary CD.

This is quite a different experience than I've had installing my new Banshee card, which has the worst driver compatibility bugs I've ever seen in a hardware device, most apparently due to Creative's modifications to the 3dfx drivers. They obviously didn't get a chance to beta test this stuff before releasing it.
