From what I gather, there are two "distant" pieces of news. I am not sure they apply in a material way, but these items were probably taken as significant in some people's minds:

1) Some company who is friends with Autodesk has a new CEO who has a good reputation. This guy plans to further Autodesk's CAD software. A long shot that this would impact Visio in a material way. But, Visio does have a CAD product in their line...but the main Visio product line isn't CAD.

2) Corel has a deal with Gateway for drawing/illustration software (NOT diagramming/Visio) software. Doesn't impact Visio at all, but if you don't understand the market it might sound like it does.
