FSI--don't own--undervalued--good long-term buy/hold FNBF--do own--undervalued--great growth in a fairly small NC bank-- great location, great franchise, eventual takeover--good long-term buy/hold CFNL--do own--start-up Virginia bank with solid management with a proven track record, poor timing on IPO, selling at less than book value...longer-term hold, a little more risky since no current earnings CCB--number one holding, solid blue-chip mid-sized regional banking franchise in North/South Carolina...nearly bulletproof earnings predictability and balance sheet integrity...recently added to S&P Midcap 400 Index...most shares tightly held and hard to come by...this is a very attractive takeover candidate, a good bet STI (Sun Trust headquartered in Atlanta) is currently reviewing them and considering a bid...other remaining banks that could be bought instead of CCB to gain a foothold in NC area include CBC and BBK...any of these will go for an extremely attractive premium when they go due to the location as well as to the high quality of the franchises. NTBK--still own a small holding (loaded up at IPO and sold most in upper 20's)...nice Internet-banking pure play with solid management...valuation getting a little steep for a "bank", but hey, this is a whole new era, and it actually looks very cheap relative to most of the pure-play web stocks... BDCO--don't own or follow and never even remember seeing this one before. TSCN--don't own or follow closely...a bit of a 'net play that tends to move when the other web-related stock-tracking/financial info stocks move, like MARG, PQT, INDI, DBCC, etc... INDI--don't own or follow closely, although I once had a trial subscription to their Individual Investor magazine. I mentioned this one as a highly speculative pick that is becoming more of an Internet play (http://www.iionline.com), and perhaps more so for the fact that their CEO, young Jonathon Steinberg is engaged (at least that's the rumor) to Miss Maria Bartiromo of CNBC fame. Maria has recently been doing guest appearances in the magazine and the web site, and sooner or later it's almost inevitable that this stock will get its 15 minutes of fame and go from $1 to $10 in a week or something. Of course, the company is burning cash and shareholders keep getting diluted as they do private placements of equity yearly it seems to raise money. Also, the demise of the small-cap stock boom has had a very negative impact on Individual Investor, since they really focus on the small caps --witness their annual Magic 25 of recent years (or should I say, Tragic 25). AMEN--I own it and I like it !!!! (fairly small position). Especially like their philosophy and web site ( crosswalk.com ). Christian internet play--portal/e-tailing, etc...highly speculative, very small market cap, losing money and may need to raise more cash in a year or so, but could catch fire and double easily. any more stocks you would like me to evaluate for you ?? I'd be happy to !!!! Other than that, I'm just here to give you and El a hard time and keep Robbie company, while throwing out a few gems now and then !!!! jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja hope this helps... Jimbo.
