They just have to ignore or amputate the Johannes Pilch wing of the party. It won't be easy. And it won't happen overnight! Look at the Democratic party. It took them a series of defeats in the Presidential elections ('72, '80, '84, and '88 -- and they won the '76 election only because of Watergate) before they got rid of the extreme Left-wingers and positioned themselves more in the center. But the extreme Right will not give up without a fight, in the same way that the extreme Left didn't. So, it will be a long, long, long time before there will be a Republican President...
