Well, since one of my jobs is network consultant, I'll throw my 5 cents in here. A possible downside of ADSL is that it is like a 56K or T-1 line. It is point-to-point, and goes to *one* ISP. The one you have signed up with. If you decide they suck, first of all you may have a contractual obligation (e.g. can't just quit), secondly whoever you then go with has to also provide ADSL and you'll get the install to do all over again (excepting possibly the premises equipment and wiring).
