UPS

After having three or four very short (min) power outages, the most recent being today, since I've moved to this location at the end of Aug, I took a look at the BEST POWER UPS site. For my 2 computers, monitors, modems, an external Jaz and tape they recommend me spending around ...<gulp> around 1500 bucks!

Say what you will about NYC.. (where I used to live) at least the power there never goes out, not since the big Black Out in 1977 anyway. That was so bad with rioting in the outer boroughs that Con Edison basically instituted fail safe systems. What a nite that was...

I've read Best UPS are very good ( and apparently very expensive) and I remember postings here about ineffective lesser priced brands such as APC.

So.. whatsaguy todo... any suggestions recommendations. what are you all using for UPS? Is there anyway to get adequate protection without paying an arm and a leg?

TIA
Clarence
