Duct tape's good - but electrical tape is waay better. If you fully jacket your ratshot load, you can get a number of uses before the creme center is entirely dissipated.

I must wonder though. How did you stabilize your vectored varmint? Assuming you restrained it in the extended conformation - you would need a high twist rate to achieve aerodynamic stability. With a slingshot, you have no imparted axial rotation, and your squeeky slug would start to tumble within a few feet of leaving the sling. Unless you cheated and balled the critter up by tying its tail around its ears.

A squirrel would solve this trouble - they come pre-fletched.

hitting with a most impressive splat!

Hard freezing your ammo in liquid nitrogen could avoid this splatting sound. I suspect it would cut down on the scurrying as well.
