Subsidiary; Addition Of former PointCast CFO Strengthens
Switchboard's Senior Management Team

WESTBORO, Mass--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Banyan Systems
Incorporated (NASDAQ:BNYN), a leading

announced that John P. Jewett has been
appointed Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Switchboard Incorporated, the
Company's majority-owned Internet

million people and business listings.
Switchboard also provides online directory services for Alta Vista, GeoCities and Bell
Atlantic's Big Yellow directory site.

Jewett joins Switchboard with more than 25 years of senior management experience at
leading technology companies. From
1995 to 1997, he was Chief Financial Officer at PointCast Inc., a widely recognized
provider of news and information to
consumers and corporations via the Internet and corporate intranets. As PointCast's
CFO, Jewett played an integral role in
facilitating the company's growth and raising more than $48 million in capital through
both private financing and corporate
investments from top media and technology leaders such as Softbank, Compaq,
Knight-Ridder and Gannet Corporation. In
addition, Jewett was instrumental in establishing relationships with Standard & Poors,
Reuters, SportsTicker, and other
information providers to broaden the content offered through the PointCast Network.

Dean Polnerow, Switchboard's President, stated, "I am delighted to welcome John to
Switchboard. John has an outstanding
track record of success in facilitating the growth of emerging technology companies. He

strong business infrastructure and
raising capital. I am confident that John's talents and skills will be valuable to
Switchboard as we expand on our position as the
Internet's most popular Web site for white and yellow pages directory services."

Jewett commented, "I was attracted to Switchboard for a number of reasons: the
Company has created one of the Internet's
most frequently visited Web sites; it has many exciting opportunities to add traffic to its
site by expanding its strategic
relationships and visibility to Internet users; and the Company is focused on converting
its popularity into a growing business. I
look forward to working with the entire Switchboard team."

Prior to PointCast, Jewett was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Calidus
Systems, Inc., a leading provider of direct
marketing, financial and logistics software, where he was instrumental in rejuvenating the
company's financial performance and
accelerating product development. Before that, Jewett was President of BluePoint
Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of
proprietary chips for laser printers, and had assumed complete responsibility for
BluePoint's business operations, including the
company's sale to Adobe Systems. John was Chief Financial Officer at Bitstream Inc., a
developer of digital typography
technologies and served as Apollo Computer's Vice President and general counsel,
where he oversaw the company's legal
operations that supported its revenue growth from $1.8 million to nearly $400 million.

Jewett holds a Bachelor's Degree from Trinity College, a J.D. from the University of
Connecticut and a L.L.M. in common
market study from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The Company noted that each of the above forward-looking statements is subject to
change based on various important
factors, including, without limitation, the plans for the Company's business. These factors
are subject to change based on
various important factors including competitive actions in the marketplace, and the ability
of Switchboard to expand its
revenues and broaden its strategic relationships. Further information on potential factors
which could affect the Company's
financial results are included in the Company's Form 10-K for the 1997 fiscal year,
which was filed with the SEC at the end of
March 1998, and the Company's Form 10-Q for the period ended June 1998, which
