Sam,

I only have one account of Hermes Tresmegistus, and have been looking for more. The account I have is by Newton, and will follow. Would it be possible for you to share your full text with me, or furnish a source reference? Sorry, looks like SI butchered the format of my quote. Will see how it looks when I hit Submit. Can send a copy via email, if desired.

Thanks,
Darrin

The Emerald Tablet
Isaac Newton

Tis true without lying, certain & most true.
That wch is below is like that wch is above & that wch is above is like yt
wch is below to do ye miracles of one only thing.
And as all things have been & arose from one by ye mediation of one: so all
things have their birth from this one thing by adaptation.
The Sun is its father, the moon its mother, the wind hath carried it in its
belly, the earth its nourse.
The father of all perfection in ye whole world is here.
Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth.
Seperate thou ye earth from ye fire, ye subtile from the gross sweetly wth
great indoustry.
It ascends from ye earth to ye heaven & again it desends to ye earth and
receives ye force of things superior & inferior.
By this means you shall have ye glory of ye whole world & thereby all
obscurity shall fly from you. 10) Its force is above all force. ffor it
vanquishes every subtile thing & penetrates every solid thing.
So was ye world created.
From this are & do come admirable adaptaions whereof ye means (Or process)
is here in this.
Hence I am called Hermes Trismegist, having the three parts of ye philosophy
of ye whole world.
That wch I have said of ye operation of ye Sun is accomplished & ended.

Sam,

"The Western world has too long and fatuously labored under the delusion that a pious and devout disposition fulfills the whole requirement of true religion. Ancient sagacity knew that piety without intelligence, or religion without philosophy, was insufficient and dangerous. It knew that general good intent was not safe from aberrancy, folly and fanaticism unless it was directed by the highest powers and resources of the mind. And the mind itself had to be fortified with specific knowledge of the nature of the cosmos and of man and the relation between the two."

Well said. Agrees wonderfully with my belief that it is not the name of the power, but the process of reconciling it within ourselves.

God is manifest in everything, and the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or of the one. To surrender the self to whatever the higher power is called, is to become one with the all. The battle is won not by battling, but by ceasing to battle, and turning that energy inward toward healing that which does not reconcile. Merely acknowledging a greater source of power, without the necessary konwledge to undergo the process of reconciliation is a danger.

David, my reply was not about you. Simply responding to Sam on generic terms.

Peace,
Darrin
