Hi Carl,
I have a short position on Micron only. If you follow how this game is played, brokerages hyping is outrageous & rampant. A study was done by a professor at a Georgia University over a period of 14 years, the results show that 66% of the time, analysts estimates will be lower that the actual results, resulting in the price going up, whether or not the company makes money or not. Even now when the market has shot up so fast and is at the 52 week highs, they are telling people to put more money into the funds and buy stocks. This is dangerous and when the market drops back, who will lose? The clueless investors who listen to these analysts. The big boys have already made their money. Every thing that I read says that the semiconductor sector will be slow for the next 1 1/2 years, and after that, is an educated guess as to what will happen. Knowing this, it tells me that these prices are not realistic and analysts are hyping. The only reason I mentioned AMAT is due to an analyst has been pushing it with many articles. After their earnings report came out a few weeks ago (earnings down 85%), this analyst hyped it, while others downgraded. Even the CEO was cautious for 1999 and was not very postive on the outlook. Don't you think the CEO knows the business better than the analyst?
