Stve, the areal density on the IBM drive is 3432 Mbits/sq.in. vs 1500 for the Diamond Max .. more than double. The average seek is less, latency is less, and the transfer rate is higher. IBM's cache is 8X larger. After spin-up, the IBM drive draws less than 3 watts more power (pretty reasonble considering the extra 2,000 RPM and 5GB of storage).

Based upon the spec sheets, only a Maxtor distributor could possibly prefer the DiamondMax.
