good morning.
william re: $10 a share earnings in 2001.
upon further reflection this morning, i think we underestimated the time frame. it is going to be 2000 not 2001. samsung is the world's largest dram producer until next year when mu is expected to move up to that position. samsung estimated their sales of 144mb rdram for 2000 at $13.5 billion that's just one product and one company. and doesn't include 72 mb rdram production. i can count 6 other companies that are in rdram production now and dozens of other companies that will be otherwise involved. (see the rambus website and read the partners list). and don't forget mu's new $500,000,000 committment to rdram production. how much product will they have streaming in mid 99?
from a samsung official about two weeks ago:
"Our new Rambus chip functions 15 times faster than normal DRAM chips and six times faster than synchronous DRAM chips," a Samsung official said. He added that the prototype memory chip to be used in midsize and large computers is twice as fast as a 72Mb chip that Samsung released in July.

"Monthly production will reach 100,000 units starting next year and increase to 1 million chips a month by the second half of 1999," the Samsung official said......

"With our new chip and module, we hope to continue to lead the next-generation memory chip market," the Samsung official said.

The global market for 144Mb Rambus DRAMs is estimated at US$2.6 billion in 1999, and it's projected to reach US$13.5 billion in 2000."
