We may have something soon folks. Hammer Storage Solutions announces the SledgeHammer Pro2 LVD Ultra2 Array -- the new Standard for High Performance, Removable, Desktop Arrays NEWARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998-- Hammer's stackable SLPRO2-LVD (Low Voltage Differential) available in 2, 4, or 6 bay configurations provides LVD SCSI performance with maximum configuration flexibility Hammer Storage Solutions, developers of the award winning SledgeHammer(R) Pro family of high performance RAID solutions and MediaPlayer(tm) animation and Digital Video application software, today announced general availability of the latest member of the SledgeHammer series, the SLPRO2-LVD. The SledgeHammer Pro series of high performance RAID solutions was designed for the digital content creator to deliver the ultimate in flexibility, performance and reliability. Hammer Engineers started with cast aluminum disk carriers designed to cool, house, and safely transport the 10,000+ rpm disk drives commonly used with today's high-end workstations. These cast aluminum disk carriers are common to the entire SledgeHammer Pro LVD and Fibre Channel family. The SledgeHammer Pro series was developed for the graphics, video, animation, and publishing markets and is supported on SGI, Macintosh and NT platforms. The SledgeHammer Pro series consists of both LVD and Fibre channel based products including the stackable SLPRO2-LVD and the 12 bay SLPRO12-LVD available in JBOD or RAID configurations. "Even in this era of storage area networks (SAN) there is a strong need for local, high performance removable storage," according to Ben Silva, Director of U.S. Sales. "The SLPRO2-LVD was designed with input from a number of digital artists. "They were looking for a small desktop unit that could augment their SAN and handle the 10,000+ rpm drives without melting or walking off the desk. In addition, they still wanted the option to easily sneaker-net multi-megabyte files, as an alternative to their network or SAN. The Hammer response to these requests is the SLPRO2-LVD." The SLPRO2-LVD is approximately 6" wide x 5" tall and holds up to two, removable 18 GB, 10,000+ rpm drives. It can also be stacked up to three units high providing up to 108GB and a LVD throughput of up to 80 MB/sec per channel on a desktop. The SLPRO2-LVD ships with the legendary JackHammer PCI to LVD host adapter and performance-driven RAIDWare array management software. The SLPRO2-LVD is available immediately. Manufacturers suggested retail price for a 9GB, SLPRO2-LVD system is $3,564.
