Microsoft signs Amazon as Internet music merchant

Tuesday November 24, 8:26 pm Eastern Time

(anyone comment on this yet? Does this mean the stock gaps up 50 pts?)

REDMOND, Wash., Nov 24 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. said on Tuesday it had signed Amazon.com as the exclusive music seller for its MSN.com Web page, giving users a quick link to the online retailer.

Under the deal, users clicking on the ''buy music'' link on the MSN.com page (http://www.msn.com) will be linked to Amazon.com's site (http://www.amazon.com), where the online merchant offers music, videos, books and other items. Microsoft has a similar agreement for books with Amazon.com's rival online bookseller Barnesandnoble.com (http://www.barnesandnoble.com), which is owned by Barnes & Noble Inc.

Microsoft said the deal also makes Amazon.com the premier music merchant on its MSN Shopping site, giving it a high-profile ad and link on that site.
