But Nietzsche wrote beautiful, precise, and elegant prose! (Except for Zarathustra.) He hated the way Germans write, so he (and Schopenhauer too) wrote German as if it were French.

Unfortunately, the next generation of Frenchmen fell under the influence of the Hegelians (and Husserl and Heidegger -- beware the Hs), so they started writing French as if it were German!

I love that: "modifiers, stacked up like firewood in a New Hampshire November." I have to confess that I never could read Kant in ANY language.
