Matt, being a Canadian I hear about Corel a bit more than most Americans.

My predictions on Corel is that MSFT's shier monopoly is crushing Corel's WordPerfect Office suite. The only hope I would hold out for Corel is in terms of being able to bring to market a new line of advanced Java-written office software.

I would call Corel a high-risk / high-reward prospect. But I would emphasize high-risk. The market for Java applications (that compare to MSFT Office) is still some time away. Can Corel survive long enough to offer this to the market? Who knows. Its touch and go.

On the good side, Corel just won a damages case against the Canadian Federal Government for unfairly setting criteria in the selection of an Office Suite for Revenue Canada. Pretty big win in damages.

As for NOVL and Corel - I think its a good think that NOVL is getting out of Corel. It is got its own MSFT-battling risks to deal with without having to add Corel's bigger risks. "Take your lumps NOVL and dont look back".

Just my opinions Matt.
