Jdn:
You are not kidding when you mentioned a long drive. It would be almost the southeasetrn tip of the US to the northwestern tip of Canada. I am on Vancouver Island about 100 miles north of Victoria. The roads are what I call fake interstates as they still have traffic lights every so often. And I mentioned the photo radar. But I used to live in northeastern Vermont. That was toy land. Great interstate (#91) and very few cops. Fabulous secondary roads. We had a good time there, at least in the summer.
You would have a good time here with your 4x4's, lots of back roads and many out of the way wild beaches on the west coast of the island.
So much to see that I have not even touched the surface yet. There is a place called Long Beach, 7 miles of absolute virgin beach. No power, no roads, just wildlife.
Question for everybody on waxing etc. The clear coat used on most cars now is very, and I repeat, very thin. I wonder if we actually can ware through it if we polish and clean to hard. Interesting question.
And the U joints. I often wondered why the factory units cannot be lubed. Something to do with profit I bet. Anyway cost on them is only $16.00 and change each and that's Canadian money, plus two hours of labour because the exhaust system has to be removed to get at them. But still only $120. A lot better than $1200. for a transmission rebuild.
