El,

One thing that has puzzled me about this thread is why everybody seems to place so much importance on what ML has to say. Lucy Painter lost her ax job on CPQ when they announced 3rd qtr 97 earnings. She kept hyping a high whisper number which CPQ couldn't make. She's history. Current CPQ ax is Dan Niles from Robbie Stephens (he used to work for DEC) with Ashok Kumar from Piper Jaffray a very close second. Morgan's Mark Edelstone (who stole the Intel ax job from Kurlak) is also very good and Andy Neff from Bear Stearns ain't bad either. When I say "ax" I mean the analyst who has the best track record on the company.

BTW did you notice how Kurlak upgraded AMD and didn't say anything about Intel? I think he and Intel are feudin'. He really blew it on Intel and he's obviously a bad loser.

I noticed in your reprinted article from the DELL thread that it mentions problems with the DEC integration at CPQ. If this whole DEC problem has to do with the proposed layoffs, then I think it is way overblown.
